01 Sep Chez des amis

Paris. It’s unusually hot. Even for July. The sun hits you with fervour and you feel unable to breathe inside every muffled city bus.

It’s now six o’clock in the afternoon and we’re walking towards the watery veins that cut through the bohemian chic body of this iconic city – first Canal Saint-Martin, once constructed under the orders of Napoleon to provide potable water to all Parisians, and then Bassin de la Villette, Paris largest artificial lake that marks the encounter with Canal de l’Ourcq, also part of this 130 km long network.

Our feet are steaming and pulsing from the hours we spent plunging streets, visiting museums and trying to find some remarkable bakeries scattered throughout. We are overwhelmed and weary. But we are also very eager to thank our everlasting friends for their sincere welcoming, materialized in a generous bundle of a temporary Parisian roof, a confortable couch and an huge amount of omnipresent good humour.

Our plans? We’ll be cooking dinner: ceviche, that fresh delicacy born in Peru, made with dices of fresh white fish, ripe tomatoes, red chillies, sharp flavoured onions and tiny limes. Served cold. To suffocate the heat. Paired down with cooled rosé French wine, cheese and traditional baguettes. For dessert nothing fancy: only baked slices of apples bathed in caramel. Simple. Free from pretence or deceit. Plentiful in the heart. Plain sweet. Like friendships should be. Like these friends are. Merci.

Chez des amis

Paris.

Simples. Livres de pretensões ou ilusões. Cheias no coração. Ingenuamente doces. Como as amizades devem ser. Como estes amigos são. Merci.
